Changelog

Product updates from Blurry

Releases, improvements, and platform notes for sharing 3D Gaussian Splatting scenes.

Native support for LCC2

Blurry now natively supports LCC2, the new file format used by all XGRIDS capture devices. Thanks to this integration, you can cover the whole end-to-end reality capture pipeline without any intermedate file conversions.

Drag & drop upload

Just like you're used to with PLY files, you can now upload LCC2 ZIP bundles by dragging & dropping them onto the dashboard or editor. Blurry will automatically detect the format, extract the relevant data, and create a scene for you.

This allows you to leverage Blurry's hosting, editing and viewing capabilities in combination with your XGRIDS capture devices in one streamlined workflow.

What should the ZIP contain?

Upload the ZIP files directly exported from XGRIDS's software. Be careful not to modify the ZIP contents or structure, as Blurry relies on the original format to correctly process the files. The structure of the ZIP should be according to the XGRIDS documentation.

PathRequiredDescription
XXX.lcc2RequiredMetadata description file, providing an overall description of the scenario data.
data/3dgsRequiredContains all 3dgs files, with extensions like .ply, .spz, .sog.
data/meshOptionalContains all mesh files.
Faster big models, richer annotations, HDR skyboxes

Big models now stream on any device, annotations hold files and images, and scenes can use High Dynamic Range (HDR) skyboxes. Uploading moved to your dashboard, and the editor got faster and more precise.

Stream massive models on any device

A large model streaming in on first load

Large uploads now build their own quality variants, so you no longer prepare each one by hand. You upload one high-quality file, and Blurry generates the lighter versions for you and your audience.

Loading is faster too. We improved our network infrastructure, so large scenes stay responsive and massive models load in no time. We also expanded coverage in Asia, so models load faster for users in that region.

Richer annotations with files and images

An annotation with an attached file and reference image

Annotations are now rich. You can add paragraphs and headings, reorder blocks by dragging, and your edits save as you type.

You can now also add links, drop in images, attach downloadable files, and even embed iframes.

Set the scene with HDR skyboxes

A scene before and after an HDR skybox

You can polish a scene with a skybox from our catalogue in a few clicks. Pick one, then tune rotation, blur, exposure, tint, and tint strength. The skybox renders in shared scenes too, so viewers see the same environment you set.

A faster way in, and a sharper editor

Uploading moved to your dashboard, so you create, upload, name, and track a scene in one place. Run several uploads at once, and switch between models to edit as they are uploading.

The dashboard sidebar also shows scene details and gives you a faster path to share or embed a model.

The editor gained several tools:

  • Hybrid camera: fly with WASD and Q/E, drag to look around, then click a point to orbit it
  • Orbit pivot helper: see the orbit target, and the editor restores it across waypoints
  • Numeric colour controls: type exact values instead of nudging sliders
  • Brand new layout: editing tools sit in one consistent place
  • Scene statistics: read splat counts, raw size, and the LoD file breakdown in the editor.
Stream massive 3D models on any device

3D Gaussian Splatting models are getting bigger. 20M+ splats is becoming common, and loading that in a browser has been nearly impossible on most devices. Until now.

Level of Detail (LoD) rendering

Our new LoD rendering system splits your model into many small chunks and streams only the quality level each chunk needs on demand. Parts of the model that are far away or occluded get dialed down automatically, while the area you're looking at stays sharp.

With this optimisation, even massive scenes load smoothly on everyday laptops and phones.

Dead-simple upload

We've made onboarding as frictionless as possible. Just drop your 3DGS files into Blurry and we take care of the rest. We automatically compress your model, generate LoDs and prepare it for streaming.

For optimal quality, we require the user to upload multiple variations of the same model with different resolutions. We're looking to overcome this limitation soon!

See for yourself

This model has over 40M splats streamed directly in your browser. No downloads, no plugins, no installation.

We recommend using LoDs for any model over 2M splats. Give it a try and let us know what you think!

Precision masking for your 3D models

We've just launched precision masking for your Gaussian Splatting models. Use cube and sphere primitives to crop unwanted areas, isolate specific objects, or focus on details that matter. The tool features intuitive transform controls with real-time preview, making it easy to refine your 3D models with surgical precision. Available now in the editor.

We just made your 3D models 20x smaller

We've been silent for a while, but only because we were cooking something special. We'd like to announce that Blurry just got a major upgrade of the rendering pipeline and Gaussian Splatting model handling.

Pristine quality without compromises

The old Blurry made tough trade-offs between quality and performance. Not anymore.

We've rearchitected the platform from the ground up, letting us both improve quality and retain rendering performance.

Ridiculously smaller files

We've adopted a SOGS-level compression, reducing file sizes approximately 20 times. In our tests, we managed to compress 700MB Gaussian Splatting files down to 35.6MB.

Files are roughly half of our previous size, meaning they load twice as fast.

And we do all of this without sacrificing quality.

What about my currently shared models?

Your old shared models will continue to work indefinitely.

But if you want to make use of all the new upgrades, we'll need to process your models again. We're gradually processing all current models, but if you want to skip the queue and upgrade your models immediately, you can do so by clicking the "Promote to Scene" button on your Blurry Dashboard.

New models will receive a new link and embedding script.

It's all about customisation

Blurry is now more powerful with new options to customise your Gaussian Splatting experience. We've listened to your feedback and built features that let you make your 3D models truly yours.

Change the sky colour

sky customsation

No more dull dark background and sky colours! We've added a new background colour picker to enhance your 3DGS models.

Whether you want a clean white background for product showcases, a vibrant blue sky for architectural visualizations, or custom brand colors for marketing materials – the choice is now yours.

Custom tags

annotation customisation

Many of you gave us feedback that our tags were boring and too simple. So we added new controls to make them truly yours!

Now you can customize:

  • Colors – Match your brand or create visual hierarchies
  • Shapes – Choose from different tag styles
  • Size – Make important information stand out
  • Transparency – Fine-tune visibility for the perfect balance

These customization options give you complete control over how information is displayed on your 3D models, making them more engaging and informative for your viewers.

General Availability

Blurry, the best platform to host, share, and view your 3D Gaussian Splatting models, has now entered general availability. We're excited to open our doors to everyone who wants to share their 3D creations with the world.

Intuitive viewer

Blurry is not just another 3DGS model hosting service! It features a blazing fast and intuitive in-browser viewer that works across all devices and browsers.

No downloads, no plugins, no hassle. Your audience can experience your 3D models instantly, whether they're on a desktop, tablet, or mobile device. Our viewer is optimized for performance while maintaining the stunning quality of your Gaussian Splatting models.

Share with a link

With Blurry, you can easily share your 3DGS models via a link. The recipient will be able to view your model on any device or directly in their browser.

It's as simple as copying and pasting. Share your work with clients, collaborators, or showcase it to the world. Each model gets its own unique URL that you can share anywhere – social media, emails, or messaging apps.

Embed anywhere

Take your 3D models beyond our platform. Embed Blurry models seamlessly in Notion docs, websites, and other platforms for that extra spark.

Our embed functionality lets you integrate your 3D models directly into your workflow. Whether you're creating documentation, building a portfolio, or enhancing presentations, your models can be right where you need them.

Introducing Blurry

After listening to your feedback, it became clear that many of you preferred a more private approach to managing and sharing your Gaussian Splatting models. In response, we're excited to introduce our evolution: Blurry - available at useblurry.com.
